Oni Mkoki

From Early Experiments to International Success

Oni Mkoki’s artistic journey is one marked by a deep-rooted passion for painting that traces back to 1990. It was during this time that he first began experimenting with form and color, a pivotal moment in his artistic evolution. In pursuit of his career and passion as a fine artist, Onias enrolled at Harare Polytechnic College in 1990.

His dedication and talent were quickly recognized, and he earned a national diploma in fine arts. In 2003, he received an award of distinction in the young artist of promise category, shortly after completing his studies. The National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe acquired one of Onias’ paintings to exhibit in their permanent art collection in 2002, showcasing his artistic prowess within Zimbabwe until 2003.

Following this, Onias embarked on a journey to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he explored new horizons for his art. He found success through exhibitions and art sales with galleries like Cherry De Villiers, House of Isis, Soweto Fine Art Gallery, and Gerald Lee Art Gallery. His works have not only captured the hearts of art enthusiasts in Southern Africa but have also resonated with audiences as far afield as Europe.

Onias Mkoki’s artistic vision draws inspiration from the beauty of nature and the creative expressions of fellow artists from around the world. His artistic style is contemporary with its roots firmly planted in impressionism. His works span a wide range of mediums, including oil, watercolor, acrylics, and mixed media, reflecting the versatility of his creative spirit.
